Take Action: Better Buses for Fig Tree Pocket

Even though it is so close to Indooroopilly Shopping Centre and train station, for residents of Fig Tree Pocket driving is almost always easier and more convenient than public transport.

Over the last few years, I’ve been campaigning for better buses in the area, and in 2022 we secured a new school bus and improvements to the existing school routes. This is a good step, but we’re still pushing for better mainstream buses - everyone deserves access to frequent and reliable public transport.

Almost 350 locals have signed my petition for direct, high-frequency buses between Fig Tree Pocket and Indooroopilly, including on Jesmond Road. Unfortunately, the State Transport Minister, who can direct Translink to deliver more frequent buses, responded by pointing to low demand for the existing buses as a reason not to improve them.

The State Government has told me that the only way we’ll get better buses is if enough residents contact them directly about it. We need residents to let the minister know that Fig Tree Pocket locals need better buses to make getting out of the car a real option.

Although the State government funds the buses, Council has a role in deciding where to prioritise new services, so contacting the local LNP Councillor is important too.

Use this page to contact the Transport Minister, Cr Mackay, and Translink directly and show your support for improved public transport.
