As the COVID19 crisis continues, people are doing it tough. Well-funded public services are vital, but everyday people coming together to help each other is important too.
I've started a Facebook group called West Side Helping Hands for COVID-19 for west side locals to offer and ask for support, and to connect with local organisations who need volunteers. Please consider joining, sharing this group with your neighbours and inviting anyone on the west side to join.
During the COVID-19 lockdowns on 2020, my team arranged contactless delivery of Basic Boxes food and other essentials for folks in need. We're still collecting essentials and are now focusing on distributing donations via the Indooroopilly Uniting Church food pantry and Communify. Please send me an email at [email protected] if you need some supplies, and feel free to drop donations of non-perishable food and other essentials to my office at 1/49 Station Rd, Indooroopilly.
If you need someone to assist with a Click-and-Collect grocery purchase, please get in touch. There are a number of locals who have kindly volunteered to assist anyone in the area who needs an order collected and dropped off at your doorstep.
International students and other visa holders have been disproportionately affected by COVID-19 and left out of much of the support mechanisms. I've compiled a list of supports available here.
Please check out this pinned post on my Facebook page for up-to-date information on COVID-19 measures such as income support, protections for renters and mortgages, school closures and health directives.
I know that many in our community are struggling right now, especially those who are in 14-day quarantine. If you or your loved ones would like to access mental health support, there's a list of resources here.
