The former ABC site on Coronation Drive in Toowong is finally for sale!
This 15,000m2 riverfront site should never have been privatised by the former federal Labor government. It has sat empty and derelict for almost 15 years, and now the private developer owner Sunland is putting the site up for sale.
This beautiful riverfront land should be a publicly owned community space, with things we can all enjoy like a park, a public pool, gardens, a community centre and more.
The site was last on the market in 2013, so this could well be our last chance to reclaim it for the people of Brisbane.
Since it was sold, a massive 3,500 apartments have been approved or constructed just in Toowong, with a huge new development coming soon at the Woolworths site on High St.
Expressions of interest to buy the site close on 30 September 2020. The LNP Brisbane City Council and Labor State government must keep local residents in the running to own the site by submitting an EOI by that time, and then working together to purchase the site.
I have also been campaigning for a walking and cycling bridge from Toowong to West End, a policy which the LNP Council has adopted. A public park at the ABC site would be a great landing point for that bridge, and would give residents on both sides of the river some much-needed green space.
As well as signing the petition, you can call the key decision makers to ask them to buy back the ABC site:
