They're just kids: A model for getting 10-13 year olds out of Qld's criminal legal system

I’ve introduced a Bill to Qld Parliament to raise the age of criminal responsibility from 10 to 14 years old.

Our current laws, which allow 10 year olds to be incarcerated, are out of line with international jurisdictions and our human rights obligations. They’ve also failed to keep the community safe or stop young people from offending.

But what would work? And how do we deal with children who display problematic or even violent behaviours outside of the criminal legal system?

Join Greens Senator and Gunnai Gunditjmara and Djab Wurrung woman Lidia Thorpe, Professor of Criminology and Criminal Justice Ross Homel and WA Senator and former police officer Dorinda Cox to answer these questions and more about raising the age of criminal responsibility. I’ll be facilitating a live Q&A with the audience in the comments, so get your questions ready!
