At a Smoking Ceremony and community action event, held outside Parliament House, Mr Berkman said “Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have never ceded sovereignty over this or any other land, and Queenslanders will not it quietly while our State Government continues to erode culture and Indigenous land rights.
“On Monday my thoughts were with Angus Emmott and Will Graham, hard-working Central Queensland farmers whose fight to maintain their properties and stop Adani’s unlimited water license has been continually ignored and even mocked by both Queensland Labor and the LNP.
“Today, on International Women’s Day, I listen with awe to Murrahwah Johnson, a powerful young woman and spokesperson for Wangan and Jagalingou Family Council, and urge the Premier to commit to meet with her and the traditional owners."
The Wangan and Jagalingou Traditional Owners Family Council have been fighting the development of the Adani Coal mine, and fighting against the Queensland Government who have been facilitating development of that mine since 2012.
