Families to gather for giant rhyme time to protest LNP cuts

Hundreds of parents and their kids are set to gather at King George Square this Wednesday for a giant rhyme time and to protest the LNP’s cuts to the hugely popular free children’s literacy sessions.

The community-led rhyme time will feature Brisbane music legend Patience Hodgson from The Grates and award-winning kids author Sophie Beer.

Earlier this month, the LNP Council announced cuts to the literacy program across Brisbane libraries, prompting backlash from parents and the Greens. A petition to save the sessions by Greens MP Michael Berkman gathered more than 4000 signatures.

The LNP would rather give tax handouts to wealthy property developers than fund these vital community-building programs.

In a cost-of-living crisis, governments shouldn’t be cutting one of the few free activities for parents.”
