Pop up office: New School

After significant pressure from our community, the Department of Education has now re-opened consultation on the two sites they believe would meet school catchment needs and provide adequate access to play space and public transport:

  1. The Gailey Rd precinct (the former Toowong Bowls Club) next to Perrin Park & Jack Cook Park. (The Department has called the Toowong site the “Perrin Park Precinct”, but this is a little misleading. They are not proposing to build on or acquire any of the park, including the dog park or community garden). This could potentially include land at the SES depot, if the State Government relocated that facility.
  2. Indooroopilly State High School on the corner of Ward St and Carnarvon St.
I know some people won’t be keen on either option, and I agree both have significant issues. But I believe that, given the ongoing overcrowding at existing schools, it’s important to make a decision in the coming months. The Department told me that they are open to considering whatever positive local improvements would make one of these options workable and acceptable for the broader community.
This new round of consultation is an important chance to secure the best possible outcome wherever the school is built. That could include a new community hall or pedestrian safety & public transport upgrades. I’m keen to continue working with you all, and I’m hoping that the Council will join us in a productive conversation.
As your MP I want to get us the best outcome, so this event is an opportunity to catch up in person and let me know:

---> Which site do you prefer out of the two options above, and why?
---> What do you want to see delivered as part of this project that would make either or both options viable in your mind?
Drop by for a chat at Perrin Park near the Community Garden between 11-12:30. There's usually a coffee van there then, and coffee's on me!
Hope to see you there.
