Palmer’s power station plans could be “another Adani” for Labor - Greens

Greens MP Michael Berkman has today written to Deputy Premier and Planning Minister Steven Miles urging him to exercise his powers under the Planning Act to block Clive Palmer’s proposed coal fired power station in Central Queensland on the basis of the State interests test.

Michael Berkman:

“If Queensland Labor doesn’t call in this coal burning climate disaster for fear of upsetting Clive Palmer then they’re just as bad as the LNP.

“Steven Miles has the legal power to stop Palmer in his tracks. If he doesn’t, Labor’s climate targets will be toast.

“This power station would mean 4 million tonnes of coal burnt for 30-50 years, a free pass for Palmer’s Galilee Basin coal mine, and more uncertainty and job losses for workers in existing coal-fired power stations.

“My message to Labor is: don’t let this be another Adani. If you really care about Queensland’s climate and economic future, then do your job and stand up to this coal billionaire.”
