After today’s High Court victory for Oakey Coal Action Alliance against the Acland thermal coal mine Stage 3, the Queensland Greens are warning the Labor State government not to meddle with the Queensland Land Court as it hears the case again.
Michael Berkman, Greens MP for Maiwar said:
“The Acland Stage 3 thermal coal mine is a crazy and destructive project, trashing some of Queensland’s best cropping land and ruining groundwater.
“The Land Court has already said that this climate-wrecking project should be stopped, and now the High Court has ruled in favour of local farmers fighting to protect their land.
“We’re warning Labor to stick to their repeated promises not to meddle with the court’s decision.
“No special legislation, no special deals and no bailouts for greedy coal companies.
