Maiwarriors Grant Program

Students at Queensland Academy of Science, Maths and Technology, who were awarded $450 to repair and upgrade the school's herb garden.

As a dad to two brilliant kids, I know young minds are an amazing source of innovative and powerful ideas. As the Greens MP for Maiwar, I want to support those ideas however I can.

My office and I are looking for Mai-warriors - young, passionate people who want to improve their local community.

If you have a project you want to get started in your school or local community that supports environmental sustainability or social justice, I want to hear from you. The Mai-warriors program can provide grants to school-aged students of up to and including $500. My staff can also assist with administration, promotion and printing to help make your idea a reality.

Some of the projects the grants contributed to in 2018 included:

    • Recycling bins installed at Rainworth State School
    • Materials for the ‘Nude Foods’ club at Fig Tree Pocket State School, which encourages kids and their families to reduce plastic waste
    • Installing a Buddy Chair at Toowong State School, which provides a safe and quiet place for students to escape the hustle and bustle of the playground when they need to.
    • A soft plastics recycling program throughout Milton State School
    • Contribution to install solar panels at Ironside State School
    • Soil and sleepers for the Rainworth Community Garden
    • Purchasing reusable straws for the Fig Tree Pocket tuckshop
    • Funding to make Rainworth School Fete waste friendly and more sustainable
