2021 Iftar Community Dinner
Friday 16 April, 5:00-8:30 pm
BEMAC. 102 Main St, Kangaroo Point
Join us for a night to meet your neighbours from around the world, over a delicious shared meal.
MP Michael Berkman, MP Amy MacMahon, CR Jonathan Sri and Sen Larissa Waters are delighted to invite you to our fourth annual community Iftar dinner. We’ll be joined by special guests Greens Senator for NSW Mehreen Faruqi and Greens Councillor for Yarra City (Vic) Anab Mohamud.
Iftar is the name for a daily meal held after sunset, to mark the end of a day of fasting. Ramadan, the ninth month in the Muslim calendar, is a special time for our Muslim communities, who fast from dawn to dusk in South Brisbane, Maiwar, and all around the world.
Ramadan is a time of reflection, where people come together to share culture and hospitality -- which we want to extend to everyone interested to come along, whatever your religion or cultural background.
Come and share a meal with us on the last day of school holidays, Friday 16 April, at BEMAC in Kangaroo Point. This event is open to people of all walks of life. BEMAC is an accessible venue for people who use wheelchairs. Family friendly.
Any funds raised on the night will be donated to the Romero Centre and the Refugee Clinic at the Indooroopilly Uniting Church.
This event is being held on the unceded lands of the Yuggera and Turrbal people. We acknowledge that sovereignty was never ceded and pay respects to Elders past and present, and to all First Nations people. Always was, always will be Aboriginal land.
Venue capacity is limited, so please book in advance to avoid disappointment.
