On Wednesday 26 August 2026 I spoke against a motion that was moved by the LNP in support of the greyhound racing industry. The Labor party joined the LNP in voting for the motion, while I voted against.

I will make it quick—as I have to. At least the Greens are consistent in their position on this. We have been calling for an end to greyhound racing for a long time now. We are increasingly isolated. Almost no-one around the world still tolerates this so-called sport. It is banned in New Zealand as of 31 July. It is banned in the ACT. Tasmania is looking at a ban. Forty-four states of the United States have banned this sport because of the extraordinary cruelty that it inflicts on animals. How many dogs have to die on racetracks here in Queensland before we are going to finally come into the 21st century and ban this shocking sport?
I table some polling that was conducted by DemosAU recently which shows that 66 per cent—two thirds—of Queenslanders think that we should see an end to greyhound racing in Queensland. In 2025 we saw $54,000 in donations going to both the major parties. This year so far the LNP have already taken $23,000 in gambling donations. I wonder why it is we are still tolerating dogs dying on racetracks in Queensland and government funding of the industry.
