The Queensland Greens will oppose the LNP Government’s Transport and Other Legislation (Managing E-mobility Use and Protecting Our Communities) Amendment Bill 2026 this week, labelling it an “absurd” piece of political theatre that won’t improve safety.
Ironically, debate on the bill will begin tomorrow, 3 June - World Bicycle Day.
Greens MP Michael Berkman:
“The wheels have fallen off the LNP’s botched e-mobility bill. After months of spin and scrambling to save face, their laws restrict access to safe, legal e-bikes while failing to stop the sale of dangerous high-powered devices - double fail.
“Queensland will soon have some of the most absurd e-mobility laws in the world.
“In Crisafulli’s Queensland, a 15 year old can fly an aircraft solo, but they can’t ride a pedal-assist e-bike unsupervised.
“It’s a not-so-happy World Bicycle Day from this Government, who apparently still need training wheels for drafting legislation.
“Meanwhile, not one single extra dollar has been promised for separated bikeways which would actually improve safety for pedestrians, riders and drivers alike.”
