Adani under investigation by Department of Environment

Questions from Greens MP Michael Berkman in budget estimates this afternoon have revealed that the Department of Environment is currently investigating Adani over its Carmichael coal mine.

Labor Environment Minister Leeanne Enoch confirmed that her Department has been investigating Adani, but wouldn’t say more because investigations are ongoing.

“Labor should come clean about what allegations have led them to investigate Adani," Mr Berkman said.

“Today’s revelations just add to the Adani group’s disturbing track record of overseas breaches, investigations and controversy.

“It’s unbelievable that Adani is under investigation before they’ve even broken ground for this mega coal mine, but with such an atrocious environmental track record overseas it comes as no surprise.

“Labor need to stand up to this billionaire mining company, but so far all they’ve done is give them special loopholes, royalty holidays and free groundwater.

“This company clearly can’t be trusted to comply with the law, and Queensland Labor needs to reconsider Adani’s suitability to operate a mine in our state."
