The LNP Council is attempting to sell off much needed green space in Toowong again!
The site, on the corner of Sylvan Rd and Land St, features seven established trees, providing much needed habitat for local critters, as well as assisting with flood mitigation in what is a very flood prone area.
This land also might be crucial for the planned bikeway on Sylvan Rd, one of the most dangerous cycling stretches in all of Brisbane.
We've already lost way too much public space in Toowong over the years, like the old Toowong Pool and the former ABC site. While at the time Council makes short term financial gain from selling sites like these, the community loses the land forever.
Instead of selling off this public greenspace to a developer who'll probably either clear the vegetation or just landbank it for capital gains, I think Council should keep the site so it can be utilised properly for the benefit of the community.
