Brisbane City Council is planning a three part mega-zipline attraction at Mt Coot-tha.
If approved, it would mean a for-profit company would operate 6 ziplines (at $100 a ride), plus a tree top canopy tour.
The project is located entirely within the Mt Coot-tha Trust Lands, held on trust for the people of Brisbane ‘as a site for public park and for no other purpose whatsoever’.
This is privatisation at its worst. While Brisbane City Council continues to green-wash their plans and brush off the community outcry, it has been clearly established that this project will have huge impacts on the local environment and community. Further, Council will be assessing its own application, so there are significant concerns about conflict of interest. Putting in a valid, formal submission is one important way for the community to have a say. The process is not perfect, but Council is legally required to consider our submissions.
