Pedestrian safety

One of the most common concerns residents raise with me is a lack of safe walking and cycling routes on the west side, especially around schools. Footpaths aren't up to scratch or end suddenly, crossings are spread out or unsafe, and we need far more safe, separated cycle lanes.

There are a particularly high number of pedestrian safety hotspots in Indooroopilly.

Many pedestrian safety issues are a Council responsibility, but it's important for me to pass on residents' concerns and try to get some safety upgrades for the Maiwar area. So on 12 July 2019 I wrote to the Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner calling for some pedestrian safety improvements in Indooroopilly. This was based on the spots locals identified to me as needing urgent upgrades, including:

  • Station Rd at the intersection with Musgrave Rd
  • Station Rd, lowering the speed limit to 40km/hr
  • Finney Rd and Woodville St
  • Rankin St Park

You can read my full letter to the Lord Mayor here. If you know a crossing, footpath or other walking/ cycling route that could use an upgrade, feel free to get in touch with my office.
